PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
